About The Association Of Private Family Doctors (APFD)
Founded and based in Malta, the Association Of Private Family Doctors (APFD) is a premier non-governmental, non-profit organization (VO Registration: VO/1803) representing private general practitioners and family physicians across the country. Family medicine is the cornerstone of any resilient national healthcare system, serving as the first line of defense and the primary touchpoint for community health.
APFD was established to unify private family doctors under a shared mission: to elevate the standard of primary healthcare, champion professional ethics, and foster continuous medical education. We work tirelessly to bridge the gap between private family practice, national healthcare policies, and patient advocacy. By equipping family doctors with modern medical insights, digital tools, and ethical frameworks, we ensure that families across Malta receive compassionate, evidence-based, and personalized medical care.
Our commitment extends beyond the consultation room. APFD actively collaborates with health authorities, academic institutions, and international medical federations to advocate for health system reforms, preventive medicine, and disease management programs that benefit the broader Maltese population.
